On Wednesday August 24, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office made a Facebook post warning about a fake news site that has recently been started. Some of their posts have been unclear if they were satire and could cause real world problems. Below is the statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
Public Service Announcement from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office:
“Real Blount County News” page is fake and satire. Please don’t believe anything posted on that page. Also the “What’s happening” pages have been putting out a lot of fake news from people who are obviously not from Blount County. Please be careful what you believe. If there really is a murderer on the loose or any type of serious threat to our communities I promise I will put out an alert.
