On Thursday, March 19 Leo Chavez escaped from the Cullman County Jail where he was being held for transfer to the department of corrections. Chavez was convicted on 3 counts of capital murder earlier in March. He was sentenced to consecutive life sentences. The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with Cullman County Sheriff’s Office to aid in the search. As of 9 am Friday, Chavez is still on the loose. He is considered dangerous and you should use extreme caution if you see him. Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey posted this reminder on Facebook. “Anyone who assists him in any manner will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
